Kingswood Golf Day raises over £20,000 for the Charity
Kingswood Golf & Country Club in Surrey hosted a golf day in May, which raised an incredible £21,458 for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.
The day was organised by the Kingswood Golf & Country Club's president Colin Griffith, Terry Ogburn and Charity volunteer John Bettle. John and Terry are both past patients of The Royal Marsden and Colin’s grandson Angus is being treated at the hospital for acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL).
Angus was diagnosed with leukaemia in September 2019, and is one of under 100 children in the UK each year who receive this diagnosis. Angus set up Angus’ Giant Pledge so his friends and family could help him raise £100,000 for paediatric cancer research by the time his current treatment is finished in 2023.
The money raised from the golf day will go towards prostate cancer research and Angus’ Giant Pledge, which has now raised an amazing £125,000 to date for paediatric cancer research at The Royal Marsden.
Colin, Terry and John said: “We would like to thank all the local golf clubs and contributors, that supported the event with such wonderful prizes, helping to make the day such a wonderful success.”
Mari-Louise White, Senior Community Fundraising Manager, said: “A huge thank you to Colin, Terry and John for their dedicated efforts in organising such a fantastic event. Thank you also to Kingswood Golf & Country Club for their support and to everyone who played and generously donated on the day.”
Over the last 10 years, golf clubs have raised more than £1 million and made a real difference to the lives of everyone affected by cancer.
