An introduction to fundraising

New to fundraising? We’re with you every step of the way. Here are some of our top tips to help get you started.

  • Set a goal: The first step is to set your fundraising goal. Having a target will give you something to aim for and will also help inspire others to support you. Your dedicated team member will be happy to offer advice on this if you’re not sure what to set your target as.
  • Set up your fundraising page: Once you’ve set your target, the next step is to set up a fundraising page. Read our guide for setting up your page.
  • Use your networks: To raise as much as you can, you’ll need to enlist the help of others. Spend some time mapping out your networks. Don’t just think about friends and family, but also colleagues, local businesses, your sports clubs, your church, suppliers at work, anyone you can think of! Once you’ve mapped out all your connections, think about how they might be able to help you by fundraising, donating prizes, providing their services for free, helping you spread the word or volunteering at your events.
  • Share your story and keep people updated: Sharing your story will help people to understand why you’re raising money and encourage people to support you. You should also update people regularly, via email, social media or even a blog – this will help spread the word and motivate people to continue supporting you.
  • Make use of existing events: If you don’t have time to organise your own events, you can make use of existing events. We have a big calendar of events supporters can sign up to, including The Banham Marsden March, running and cycling events and treks. You could also try contacting local events to ask if you can collect donations or run a stall.
  • Don’t forget to thank your supporters: A thank you means so much and by doing this publicly on social media people will know you’re grateful and it could inspire others to support you too.
